Date & Orange Chutney

This chutney is delicious with everything from curries to sausages and as a side to cheese on crackers. It will last refrigerated for at least 3 months.

Date & Orange Chutney

Makes 2 cups

2 oranges – peeled, seeded, chopped

270 g (1 1⁄2 cups) dried dates – chopped

3 Tbs vinegar

2 Tbs honey

1⁄2 lemon – juiced and grated rind

1 tsp mustard seeds

1 Tbs ground cinnamon

pinch cayenne

60 ml (1⁄4 cup) fresh orange juice

1.   Combine all ingredients in a heavy saucepan and cook covered for 30–45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

2.   Add a little liquid if needed.

3.   Allow cooling before serving.

4.   Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator.
